HER PERFORMANCE: The top returning player from the best team in Marais des Cygnes Valley history with the Trojans going 39-4 and qualifying for the Class 1A Division II state tournament a year ago, Criqui hit not just one but two milestones in the first week-plus of the season. Entering the season with 939 career kills and 930 career digs, Criqui hit 1,000 in both stat categories. She topped 1,000 career kills in the championship match of the Burlingame Invitational, pounding out 17 in a loss to Class 3A Osage City, finishing the tournament with 70 total kills. She then went over 1,000 career digs in recording 18 in a win over Lebo on Aug. 31. In nine matches this season, Criqui has recorded 139 kills, 99 digs and 19 aces and is closing in on 200 career aces.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Emily is a six-rotation player who can play any position and we move her around depending on our game plan,” Marais des Cygnes Valley coach Missy Criqui said. “She is an athlete and competitor Her love for the game is contagious and she pushes her teammates to be better. This will be important this season. She was a leader amongst leaders last season and now she is the leader.”
