After a full morning of hard work in Quenemo and Melvern, all MdCV students and staff loaded up after lunch and headed to Olivet to help with storm cleanup.
Olivet had taken the bulk of the storm damage, and there was still a great deal of work to be done. Even after spending the morning trimming trees, hauling limbs, clearing brush, and serving in other communities, our students showed up in Olivet ready to go right back to work. They were tired, but they did not complain. They understood that families in Olivet needed help, and they were willing to give whatever they had left.
Once in town, it was all hands on deck. Staff members took crews and walked the streets of Olivet, helping clear limbs, drag brush to the roadside, and pick up debris left behind by the storm. Students helped move branches and pieces of damaged structures so Osage County crews and Emergency Management could more easily haul it away. They worked yard by yard, street by street, doing whatever needed to be done to help the community begin recovering.
What stood out most was not just the amount of work our students accomplished, but the heart they showed while doing it.
At the community center, a local resident was clearly exhausted after spending the last three days cleaning up storm damage. One of our students noticed and simply stepped in to help by taking over the mowing. That moment said everything about the kind of students we have at MdCV. Our kids understand hard work, but more importantly, they understand people. They know how to see a need and respond.
That spirit was present all across Olivet. Students did not look for recognition. They just worked. They kept going, even when they were hot, tired, and worn down from an already long day. They served with the kind of attitude that makes a school and a community proud.
Days like this remind us that education is about more than what happens inside a classroom. It is also about building character, responsibility, compassion, and a willingness to serve others. Our students showed all of that today.
We could not be more proud of our kids and our staff. They stepped up when people needed them, and they represented MdCV the right way.
That is the kind of students we have at MdCV. Parents you should be proud of your kids, they worked hard and didn’t complain. They knew they were having an impact. Today goes to show you when MdCV works together we can accomplish some amazing things.
That is what it means to be a Trojan. TROJANS NEVER QUIT!
