Back-to-School Parent Letter

Hello Marais des Cygnes Valley! As that time draws near, I am greatly excited to begin this school year! I hope this letter finds you having a wonderful summer that is full of  family, friends, and fun! As we are nearing the beginning of the school year, I wanted to be sure you had all of the necessary information that is needed to help prepare for the first day of classes.

New District Website and Phone App:  New for this year, our district will be transitioning to a new website and phone app. While the website will be going through a design change to enhance user engagement, it will still be located at mdcv.org and/or usd456.org. As the website becomes fully developed, it will feature all pertinent information about the district in an easy to use format. The new phone app will be available through most phone app stores by simply searching “MDCV” and downloading the app. The MDCV app is streamlined to be able to give users quick and easy access to information they need. From daily food service menus, to scores from last night’s game, to social media posts, to building calendars - the MDCV app gives you district information at your fingertips.

Enrollment: District enrollment will be performed in person at your student’s corresponding school building on August 6th and 7th. On August 6th, enrollment staff will be available from 1:30pm-7:00pm. On August 7th, enrollment staff will be available from 8:00am-12:00pm. During these times, parents and guardians can come in, update any necessary information, arrange potential bus transportation, receive class schedules, and finalize student fees. We look forward to seeing you there!

Supplies: To help parents and guardians keep information accessible, supply lists have been posted online at mdcv.org. Once there, the official list is located under the menu tab titled “School Supply Lists.” There are grade level specific items, so be sure to check your list twice to ensure your student has everything they need!

First Day: The first day of classes will be on August 16th. Classes will begin with a full-day schedule 8:00am-3:30pm. Even though staff have time off during the summer, they are certainly preparing for first day so that they can have a successful new year. Additionally, each building has an assortment of activities planned that day to kick-off the school year, so be sure to arrive on time and ready to go!

Fall Sports: If your grade 7-12 student is interested in participating in fall sports, do not miss the first day of practice, which is scheduled for August 19th. Be sure to ask at enrollment for sport specific practice times and locations and coach contact information. Don’t forget that all participants must have their physicals on file with the district before the first day of practice!

As I mentioned, I hope that the summer finds you and your student well! I look forward to the opportunity this new year brings as we continue those necessary steps towards being the successful school district its’ stakeholders envision. Students, staff, parents, guardians, the board of education, the community - we are all teammates, working together to make MDCV the best place it can be.

Let’s have a great year!

Go Trojans!
