Marais des Cygnes Valley Trojans
New look for district website
We are USD 456 Marais des Cygnes Valley, home of the Trojans, and we welcome you to our newly redesigned website from the SOCS network.
The make-over process, which began in the fall of 2014, was steady and deliberate. We solicited suggestions from many people in order to update the look and bring you a website that easily communicates information but also represents the district in a distinctive yet professional manner.
The front page features a revised version of the Trojan mascot, which was recommended by the high school student council and approved by the school board. The background image was taken locally and is a reminder of the rural scenic environment that surrounds us, including our proximity to Melvern Lake, the Melvern Riverfront Park and Trails, the Marais des Cygnes River, and the abundant creeks and farm ponds in the area. The French name Marais des Cygnes itself means “Marsh of the Swans.”
Again, thank you for visiting. We hope you come back often, and check out the news, school calendar, and various resources to explore and use. Our goal is to provide a quality education for students in the district and to keep the links of communication open with parents and patrons in the communities we serve.
For those unfamiliar with the French pronunciation of the school’s name, it is similar to other words adopted into the English language where the final consonant is not pronounced. Words such as debut, debris, depot, filet, gourmet, buffet, ballet, Mardi Gras or Grand Prix are some examples. Likewise, in the name Marais des Cygnes the final –s is not pronounced. Thus, the name is pronounced like this: ma-RAY-day-seen.
