Juniors appreciate concession customers

Proceeds benefit class activities

by Mary Warner, junior

October 05, 2011

The junior class will be selling concessions at all home games this year. One group of juniors will work at the stands during junior high games, one for JV games, and one for the varsity games on Friday nights. The juniors will sell concessions during both football and basketball seasons, although the schedule has only been set for football, so far.
Proceeds from the stand will be used for class activities, including senior trip and prom. This year’s concessions stand has a new menu which features chili dogs and sour punch straws. Hot chocolate will be served at the football games, if the weather becomes particularly cold.
Before the juniors began selling, a lot of work had to go into setting up. The class had a meeting the night of the pre-season scrimmage, and they carried the soda pop to the coolers afterward. The next week, they were asked to come back after school to prepare the stand for another season of selling food. That night, everyone in the class worked together on cleaning the stand. They scrubbed blue paint off of the windows and washed the countertops. They also swept the floor, and removed all of the unnecessary storage items out of the stand.
Everything was ready to go the next day, which was the first home game of the season. The Trojans played against Waverly, and the sales were very high that night.
The parents of the juniors have also worked very hard this year. There are usually about three parents working at every game, and they have put in a lot of time and effort as well.
Everyone is encouraged to buy their food at the games to support the class. Every sale counts and any and all customers are greatly appreciated.
Assisting the junior class is Barbara Phillips, concession sponsor.
