Brenda Snyder, born and raised in the Dayton, Ohio area, earned her B.S.S.E. degree in Home Economics from John Brown University. She and her husband moved to Lyndon, Kansas in 1974. At that time she accepted a position teaching Home Economics, now called Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS), for USD 456. Snyder has continued taking classes at Miami of Ohio, Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University and Baker, since obtaining her B.S.S.E. degree. During her teaching career, she has been active and held various positions in KHEEA, Kansas Nutrition Council, KACTE, and KATFACS-organizations whose missions are to further the study of FACS in the public schools. Over the years, Snyder has sponsored several classes, was Student Council Sponsor for 15 years and sponsored Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) for 14 years. In 2007, Snyder took a partial retirement returning to teach upper level FACS classes in the mornings. The Snyders have four grown children, living in Kansas, Arkansas and Florida. She enjoys various needlecrafts, reading, and “putzing” around on their farm.
