My early years were spent in Kansas City, KS, and then I moved to Lyndon, KS when I was 12. I graduated from Lyndon High School, and from there I moved to Lawrence, KS to attend The University of Kansas (ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!!). I majored in literature and earned a bachelor’s degree from KU then made my way back to the Kansas City area. After graduating, I spent many years in schools as a secretary and a paraeducator. During my time as a para in the Lyndon School District, I decided to go back to school to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher. So in 2010 I enrolled at Emporia State University and eventually completed my coursework for licensure in secondary education, the field in which I am currently pursuing a master’s degree.
In 2012 I was offered my first teaching position at Marais des Cygnes Valley JH teaching writing, and it’s been an adventure! I enjoyed two years teaching writing to sixth through eighth-grade students, but at the end of the 2013-2014 school year, I was offered the chance to teach high school English. So that is where I am now, about to begin my third year teaching high school students!
As I mentioned above, I moved back to Lyndon, and that is where I currently reside alongside my husband, Jason, and son and daughter, Jaeden and Sydney. I stay pretty busy in my “free” time with basketball, baseball, musical concerts, play practices, planning, and youth group/church activities; but even when I do get some time to myself, I tend to stay busy. I love reading so if you ever need a suggestion come see me or check out my classroom library. I also love to listen to music which if you’ve been in my classroom is quite apparent, because I usually have some sort of music playing at all times. I also enjoy watching TV/movies. Right now I’m addicted to Rehab Addict, and I absolutely LOVE The Walking Dead. As for movies, I will give just about anything a try. Some of my recent favorites have been Pitch Perfect, The Fault in Our Stars, and anything with Channing Tatum.
