Duane Colwell

Duane Colwell is in his first year of teaching the social sciences courses at Marais des Cygnes Valley High School. Before coming to MdCV he taught the social science classes at Lebo High School for 11 years. He held several different career jobs before becoming a teacher, and has experience as a police detective, wire drawer for Essex wire, city utility worker, and other hands on career jobs gaining valuable experience and insight to real world problems and then brings that knowledge into the classroom to relate historical concepts to real life events for his students. He was raised on a small farm northeast of Ottawa, Kansas. Mr. Colwell graduated from Wellsville High School in 1983, Baker University with a Bachelor of Arts in history and a minor in secondary education in 2004, and Master of Science in School Leadership in 2012. Along with teaching duties at MdCV, Mr. Colwell is the head HS boys’ basketball coach, but has experience coaching both HS/JH cross-country, basketball, and track. He has been a class and Student Council sponsor and has served on several educational committees throughout his career. Mr. Colwell has been married to Lori (MdCV ‘81) for 13 years and they currently live in Osage City, Kansas. Together they have 6 children and 13 grand children. He enjoys reading historical, sport and leadership books, and spending time with Lori watching movies, taking walks, dancing, playing games and spoiling their grand kids. He is excited to be a new member of the MdCV family and is looking forward to an exciting school year.
