Robotic Competition at ESU

By Baxter, Brock

December 06, 2017

Mrs. Stuckey and Mr. Baxter took MdCV junior high and high school students to Emporia on Wednesday, Inserted Image November 29th to compete in robotic competitions. After several attempts of competing at the local ESU robot competition the high school group finally started to collect substantial points. Due to perseverance and a few semesters of practice (and a new loaner kit) we were able to get 6th place out of 16 teams. We had a junior high group attend for the first time, and while they did not fair as well as the high school team, they learned a lot...just like the high school groups before them. If given more time to prepare I think both teams would have faired better.

It ended up being some much needed practice as the real challenge comes on Dec. 9th. Both teams will compete, for the first time, in a First Tech Challenge in KC. During this competition the teams will have to program their robots to complete tasks autonomously (without the direct controls of a person), as well as other tasks the old fashion way. We are going into this with no big expectations, other than to get better so we can try this again next year!
