MdCV FFA Members Stay Busy During the Fall

By Rice, Danny

October 10, 2017

Greenhand Conference

On September 13, 2017 Marais des Cygnes Valley FFA members Tony Cannon, Brice Marsh, Sadie McGowin, Izzy Toman, and Colby Vogeler attended the annual Greenhand Conference in Ottawa at the Ottawa Municipal Auditorium.

The conference is for first year FFA members. Students participate in workshops that are presented by the East Central District officers along with help from two Kansas State officers. Greenhands took a test over FFA history and information that they learned in class. They participated in activities that included leadership building, official dress, Career Development Events, and Supervised Agricultural Experience programs.

Highway Cleanup

On September 20, members from the FFA, FBLA, and FCCLA showed up with their orange vests, gloves, and trash bags to cleanup for Adopt-a-Highway cleanup program South of Melvern. Afterwards, the members ate pizza and played games.

Kansas State Fair

The MdCV officers, Kali Holt, Brookelyn Janssen, Alaine Marsh, Kathryn Vaught, Chloe Volkman, and Josey Weimer traveled to the State Fair on September 17. This year they did something new and helped out at the Birthing Center. We used a demonstrational cow and calf to give kids the opportunity to learn how to pull calves. We also had help from two Kansas State University college students that were studying to become veterinarians.

FFA Movie Night

Members of the MdCV FFA spent a night at the Drive-In Friday, Sept. 22. The members projected the movie on the Ag Shop Door, back up trucks, ate hotdogs and enjoyed the evening outside following the game.

Mums

This September we are selling yellow and red mums. Call the school to set up a meeting time if interested. (785-549-3313)

Seitz Fundraiser

Starting October 2nd we will start our annual Seitz fundraiser. Each member will be selling items such as meats, fruits, and cookies until the 16th.
