Successful School Carnival 2017

The 13th annual school carnival was held at Marais des Cygnes Valley Elementary School on Saturday, April 21. All activities were held in the building because it was too wet outside to set up the activities. Doors opened at 10:00 a.m. to welcome students, their families and community members. Elementary staff volunteered their time, as well as some parents and high school students.

Students could participate in the many fun activities that were located in the school building. Those activities included a Bounce House, Hoop Shot and various games inside the gym. There were activities for all ages in the gym such as a cake walk, search and find, Beat the Dealer, and Monkey Coconut Maddness pinball. There was also a silent auction in the gym. Themed gift baskets made by students and staff included Game Night, Gift Cards, MdCV Trojans, Arts/Crafts, Reading, Lottery, Garden, Royals, and Suprise. Raffle tickets were available at the door. All items given away were supplied by donation.

The carnival store was moved to the music room to make room for more activities. Student could trade tickets or cards that were stamped when winning at the various activities to buy items they really wanted at the carnival store.

The hungry carnival goers visited a concession stand located in the kitchen. Hot dogs, pop, and candy were available for lunch. With each hot dog that was purchased, a free bag of chips was given away, courtesy of Frito Lay. Cotton Candy and Sno-Cones were also available for in the lunch room.

There was a container for raffle tickets for “Cream a Staff Member.” Ten raffle tickets were drawn and the winners chose the Staff Member that they wanted to “cream.” The following staff members were creamed: Marie Cormode, Gail Shelton, Sarah Skiles, Barbara Roberts, Carrie Lingenfelter, Peggy Burkdoll, Ms. Wollenberg, Mr. Hessong, and Duane Meiers.

The carnival workers were all volunteers, usually either MdCV staff members or parents. There were also a few high school students and community members who were there to help out.  All proceeds from the carnival will benefit the Marais des Cygnes Valley Elementary reading and math programs.

The carnival was a big success this year, but it would not have been possible without the support of the community. The school thanks everyone who volunteered their time and efforts towards a fun and productive day. See you next year!
